Do you smell a musty odor in your home that you cannot locate? If so, you may have a mold problem hiding somewhere in your China Lake home. Our local teams in Hesperia/Apple Valley and Barstow/Twentynine Palms are trusted leaders in mold remediation. Often, a mold outbreak is a symptom of hidden water damage. When we inspect and assess for damage, we will locate the source of the excess water damage and make repairs to discourage the mold from returning once the mold has been removed. Here is some information about mold from our website:
- Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors
- Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air, and may enter your home through windows, doors, or air conditioning and heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet
- Mold spores thrive on moisture
- Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water
- Mold colonies may produce allergens and irritants
- Before mold remediation begins, any water or moisture sources must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
- Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas
- Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

Air Duct Cleaning
6/3/2022 (Permalink)
Air ducts play a crucial part in your residence. They distribute air from the air conditioning systems to every room in the house, ensuring year-round comfort. If you neglect the air ducts, they will accumulate pollen, dust, mold, and debris build-up. The build-up then gets circulated throughout your home once the HVAC system sucks the air, affecting the comfort of your home. As a result, regular duct cleaning is essential to ensure all built-up air pollutants can be removed.
What Are the 6 Benefits of Duct Cleaning?
- Improves the air quality
Your family members are breathing in the air passing through the air duct in your house. Therefore, if the air duct contains mold, dust, debris, or pollen, it will affect the air circulating in your living area.
Regular air duct cleaning will ensure that your indoor air is quality, protecting your family’s health.
- Enhances HVAC system performance
If your air duct has an increased accumulation of debris within its system, it affects the airflow in the HVAC system. As a result, you will notice different temperatures in your room in other parts of the room. This will force your air conditioner to overwork to provide enough air circulation in the room.
The HVAC system could also be damaged in the process, increasing your maintenance cost. To counter all these, you will need to have your air ducts properly cleaned.
- Gets rid of bad odors
Mold, debris, and dust accumulating in an air duct can produce a bad smell that can circulate into the whole house. These odors can cause sometimes irritate those in your home with allergies or asthma. To ensure that your house doesn't have a bad odor, you can facilitate regular air duct cleaning.
- Eliminate allergens
It’s possible to efficiently regulate allergens, the compounds that cause allergic reactions in humans, by maintaining clean air ducts in your home. Allergens can be found in various places, including pet fur, food, and pollen. Having your system examined and cleaned regularly is an excellent approach to preventing or limiting any building of these toxins in the duct.
- Keep your environment clean
When your HVAC system is turned off for several hours, dust particles collect in the ducting. Once the machine is activated, the particles recirculate throughout the home. They inhabit your bedding, furniture, flooring, and other items.
To maintain your home clean and healthy, you must frequently dust the surfaces. If you observe that your home has become particularly dusty, you should inspect the air ducts. When you clean the ductwork, you minimize contaminants from continuously entering your home and can keep your home cleaner for longer.
- Improve energy efficiency
When dust and dirt keep accumulating in the air, your air ducts force your HVAC system to work harder to maintain regular airflow in your house. As a result, the air conditioner will consume a lot of energy for air circulation.
Therefore, to regulate the energy consumption, you’ll need to ensure that your air conditioner is working at its normal rate by cleaning all particles in the duct.
Odor Removal and Deodorization
6/3/2022 (Permalink)
Are you experiencing a bad odor in your house? Living in an environment with a bad smell can be uncomfortable for many people. In addition, allergic or asthmatic people can experience respiratory irritations from breathing in the bad air.
However, there are various deodorization methods that you can employ in your house to remove the bad-smelling odor.
- Odor removal and deodorization in the kitchen
To deal with odor in the kitchen, you will have to address the major contributors to the bad smell in your kitchen;
Your trash or the trash can might be a major contributor to the bad odor in your kitchen area. Ensure you regularly dispose of your trash while cleaning the trash can well. Use baking soda to clean the trash can, then disinfect it using Lysol to kill all potential bacteria.
If you mix fresh food with leftovers in your fridge, expect a bad odor. Ensure that your leftovers are kept in a closed lid before storing them in the fridge. You can also have an open box of baking soda in the fridge for odor removal and deodorization.
You often use your microwave to warm almost everything from soup and tea to leftovers. So you can imagine the kinds of smells that keep circulating in your microwave during the day.
In some cases, some food particles will fall in your microwave. Therefore, proper cleaning of your microwave is very important while leaving the microwave door for some fresh air to enter.
Sanitizing your cutting board might not be enough to remove the odor of onions and garlic. You can wash your chopping boards using a dishwasher or lemon to scrub your wooden cutting board.
Odor removal and deodorization in the bathroom
Toilets, if not attended, can be a major cause of an odor in your house. Don’t wait until you start smelling the odor from your toilet. Ensure you keep your toilet clean using the best toilet deodorizer.
After several years (or months), your mattress may emit a musty odor. To remove the odor on your mattress, sprinkle baking soda and vacuum it up.
If you keep your closet closed, it traps all the humidity and smell in one place. This will end up producing a bad odor over time. Instead, you can use a closet dehumidifier to ensure your clothes do not absorb moisture.
Odor removal and deodorization in the living room
Your carpets are major contributors to bad odor. This is because people and pets are stepping on them regularly, leaving a ton of dirt particles behind. Carpets are also prone to moisture absorption, which will only contribute to the bad odors.
It becomes uncomfortable to live in a home with a bad odor. By simply following our odor removal and deodorization techniques, you can help keep your home smelling clean. For professional odor removal and deodorization, contact your SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley or SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms.
Mitigate those water damages
6/1/2022 (Permalink)
Today's blog is what to do in case of a flood inside your home. There are some steps to insure the progress of mitigation is met.
The first step is calling out a plumber. A plumber will identify and repair the source of the leak. It is important to get a plumber’s report from the plumber.
Next step – call SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley or SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms to mitigate the damages. We can help identify the type of flood. The flood could be clean water from a broken pipe. It can also be a contaminated source being below the trap of a toilet or garbage disposal. These 2 types of floods are handled differently one is clean water the other is water with bacteria. A certified water mitigation company such as ours can help minimize the damages.
We use air movement, dehumidification, and removal of affected (wet) areas. This will decrease the chance of microbial growth such mold and help to get your home or business back to preloss conditions as quickly as possible.
There are a couple things that owners can do to decrease the probability of a flood. Quarterly check toilet supply lines. If you leave on a vacation or even over-night shut off main water line and identify the main shut off. Floods always seem to happen due to these circumstances.
If a flood does happen in your home or business, call SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley or SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms to help you mitigate your damages.

Our customers have spoken

SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms are popular on the internet. I don’t say that to brag or be facetious; I say it because of what our customers say about us. Here is a recent review from one of our customers on Google.
“I experienced water damage in my home and SERVPRO came recommended by my insurance. I was treated as a valued customer from scheduling to the final day of cleanup. Nora and the office staff were very responsive to all my calls and questions. Adam and Chris were respectful of my time, space and even worked around my small children with care. Technicians at the Ready
4/23/2021 (Permalink)
The technicians at SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms make our operation work. While it could be argued that without our marketing and sales team, we’d have far fewer relationships with insurance companies and thus, fewer jobs. You could also state that without our office staff or upper management, our backend would fall apart and we would have no structure or ability to accurately and swiftly complete our jobs. All of the above is absolutely and undeniably true, but the vast majority of our customers primarily interact with our field technicians. To me, that qualifies them as the face of our company. Our reputation rests in their hands and with over 50 years of experience and the title of “one of the world’s premiere restoration companies”, that’s a pretty heavy burden to shoulder.
The great thing about that fact is that our technicians are truly world-class. We are incredibly selective and have a lot of boxes to check before we even consider bringing on a new crew member.
- Are they professional?
- Do they have long-term plans for growth within the company?
- Are they educated and experienced at a master level?
- Can they leave a lasting positive impression with our customers?
The above requirements are just the tip of the iceberg. Our recruitment process and continued training both go to ridiculous lengths to ensure that when you choose SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms, you can rest easy knowing that your home or business is in the hands of true professionals that are more than qualified to help make your loss “Like it never even happened.”
They hardly left any room for a bag of chips or an apple in there.

Have you ever partaken in a virtual home walkthrough? How about Google Earth? Have you ever wondered how those beautiful, lush images were captured in such stunning detail and depth? No? That’s okay. You’re thinking about it now!
I can quell this newly-found curiosity of yours. SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms has begun using the very same technology that real estate agents and major conglomerates like Google use on a regular basis. It is known as a 360 Cam or “Matterport” by brand name. The camera is essentially shaped like an old fashioned lunchbox, assuming your lunchbox was filled with thousands of dollars’ worth of expensive photography technology inside. The camera has two sets of lenses; three vertically aligned infrared lenses and three vertically aligned camera lenses. The IR lenses act as “depth of field” scanners, essentially shooting beams of IR light across an area to determine the dimensions of a room, including all objects in said room. The camera lenses fire off simultaneously, capturing high-definition images to accompany the depth scan. The images and depth are then combined internally to create a 3-D rendering of an environment. The camera spins using an internal motor while mounted on a tripod, allowing for a full 360-degree scan. The camera can be moved up to six feet after every scan, allowing it to “stitch together” the images, creating a digital blueprint that they call a “Dollhouse” view.
As you can imagine, this is an insanely valuable tool for insurance adjustors, homeowners, and the crew working on the project. Measurements can be drawn from these images, as they are touted to be true to size within an inch.
SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms uses this tool on all large-scale losses we work on, ensuring that we cover our bases and stay up to date on the latest technological innovations our industry has to offer. It’s just one more way we can help to make it “Like it never even happened.”
Tell us your best dad jokes. We promise to return the favor

What is customer service to you? The term carries a lot of connotations and has different meanings and degrees of importance to everybody. To me, customer service is going above and beyond the pale, leaving a lasting great impression, and treating every customer I interact with like my best friend. Obviously, I hold back on offering customers to come by my house for drinks or suggest going to a hockey game though I’d be lying if I said a few of them haven’t offered similar gestures to me. While I have never taken anyone up on said offers, the sentiment shows me that I’m doing my job well and holding true to my standards of satisfaction.
SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms shares my views on customer service. We all have that one terrible experience that stands out in our minds (remember when Billy at the local burger joint took out Finals Week stress on your cheeseburger and turned it into a two-dimensional object? Less energy drinks, kiddo) and we all know that we will never return to these places of businesses. That’s exactly why SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms goes to great lengths to make sure that we leave a smile on our customer’s faces. Everyone from our office staff to our technicians make it known that our jobs aren’t done until our customers are happy.
When you’re working with SERVPRO, you’re working with the best.
Business as usual shouldn’t include sweeping ash off your desk
4/21/2021 (Permalink)
So you’ve taken the plunge.
You have decided that, after years of being someone else’s employee, you want to jump into business for yourself and control your own income and future. Excellent! Aside from startup costs and growing pains, this seems like a relatively simple path to independence. That is until a bad wiring job starts a massive fire, destroying your entire office and all of the expensive equipment in the process.
Things seem bad. Really bad. You dumped your entire life’s savings into this venture and just like that, it literally went up in smoke. Of course, there is always your insurance and sure, that’ll take care of the monetary aspects of things, but what are you supposed to do with a burnt out husk for an office?
I’m glad you asked. I have an answer for you.
SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Bartow/Twentynine Palms handles these types of losses all the time. As a matter of fact, we’ve built our reputation on fire and water loss restoration. We can pack affected materials out, we can cut away and rebuild damaged walls, ceilings, and floors, and we can remove the smell of smoke. We can do it all. That’s why our motto for the last 50+ years has been “Like it never even happened.”
The Power of Disinfecting
4/28/2020 (Permalink)
Simple tips to Disinfect
Have you ever thought about how many surfaces you touch throughout the course of a day? Door knobs, phones, money… there’s a lot of opportunity to pick up some pretty nasty passengers that are more than happy to come home with you.
Doctors and scientists the world over agree: the best way to kill germs is to wash your hands and clean your home. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are hearing these simple directions time and time again. There is a reason why!
Aside from washing our hands, the best way to protect your family is to wipe down countertops, doorknobs, light switches, and common surfaces with either a mixture of warm water and bleach or a household surface cleaner, such as Clorox. For electronics and other sensitive surfaces, try using wet wipes with an alcohol content of at least 65%.
That being said, cleaning a surface is not the same thing as disinfecting it. Disinfecting an area kills germs, while cleaning does not. Because of this, germs may continue to grow and reproduce.
It is a wise decision to use protection, such as gloves, when using any type of chemical cleaner. Even those of us who are not prone to chemical and solvent sensitivities may experience redness and discomfort when using bleach or ammonia-based cleaners. Rubber or latex gloves are recommended. It is also recommended that you adequately ventilate the area you are cleaning to avoid coming into contact with potentially harmful vapors.
If your home requires a more extensive and in-depth cleaning or disinfecting, call the experts at SERVPRO of Hesperia / Apple Valley / Barstow / Twentynine Palms. Our technicians are IICRC certified and thoroughly trained on how to both clean and sanitize an area to current CDC guidelines. We are here to help 24/7, 365 days a year.

Restore Vs. Replace
4/14/2020 (Permalink)
The restore vs. replace mentality is one of the greatest assets SERVPRO of Hesperia / Apple Valley has.
When it comes to making it "Like it never even happened," it’s impossible to overstate the importance of keeping as many of the original items as possible. This allows prices to stay down, as the cost for restoration is 20% of the cost for replacement. More importantly, restoring is the preferred option because whether we realize it or not, the things in our homes, even the most arbitrary, have some kind of sentimental value. The blanket you always grab when you watch a movie, the plate you put your Thanksgiving turkey on, the couch your grandparents gave you; every item of yours is important, and SERVPRO of Hesperia / Apple Valley will treat it as such.

Moisture Concerns, Call Us
4/14/2020 (Permalink)
Being in damp and moldy environments may cause a variety of health effects, or no effects at all. Mold is tricky like that. Your odds of having issues, however, goes up near wooded areas, compost heaps, and old structures with outdated or poor plumbing.
Molds are part of nature. Mold plays a part in nature by breaking down dead organic matter such as fallen leaves and dead trees but indoors, mold can wreak havoc and should definitely be monitored and avoided if at all possible. Molds reproduce by means of tiny spores; the spores are invisible to the naked eye and float through the air. Mold may begin growing indoors when mold spores land on surfaces that are wet. There are many types of mold, and none of them will grow without water or moisture.
The key to controlling mold is controlling moisture in your home. If mold is a problem in your home, chances are there is a water problem.
It is important to dry water-damaged areas and items within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.
Mold gradually destroy the things it grows on. You can prevent damage to your home and furnishings, save money, and avoid potential health problems by controlling moisture and eliminating mold growth.
If you suspect you have a moisture issue in your home or business call SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley/Barstow/Twentynine Palms to investigate at 909-548-3191

4/13/2020 (Permalink)
In today’s world, there is a big focus on stocking up on sanitization products, bottled water, and even toilet paper. Furthermore, many people are purchasing excessive amounts of isopropyl rubbing alcohol and more harsh cleaning chemicals like bleach. It is important to understand how to safely use such things and also how to keep your home clean and sanitized.
Know Your Chemicals
The most important tip to keep in mind is to never mix chemicals. Most people are not chemists and have no idea what happens on a molecular level when they mix two household cleaning products. Therefore, you should never mix cleaning chemicals unless advised to do so from the product labels. Additionally, do not clean with harsh chemicals without proper ventilation in the area. If you experience a headache, feel lightheaded, or have difficulty breathing, leave the area immediately.
Know the Places to Clean
Different illnesses have different forms of transmission, though the most common contraction method is through the touching your face, eyes, nose, or mouth. Be sure to thoroughly clean basic things such as door handles, knobs, countertops, tables, windows, and appliances. Additionally, clean things such as your car, keyboards, controllers, chairs, pillows, garbage bins, and especially your bathroom.

It’s no secret that most businesses that bounce back after a disaster had an emergency plan in place. Having an emergency plan can provide peace of mind that, in the event of a disaster, the information you will need is already put together and everyone involved within the operation is on the same page. In the event of an emergency, this information could be your business’ lifeline to recovery and reopening its doors.
SERVPRO of Hesperia / Apple Valley / Barstow / Twentynine Palms’ Emergency Ready Profile (ERP) is a no-cost assessment of your facility. By putting an ERP in place for your business, you minimize interruption by having an immediate course of action in place following an emergency, such as a fire, flood, or other natural disasters.
