Cleaning product Simple tips to Disinfect

Have you ever thought about how many surfaces you touch throughout the course of a day? Door knobs, phones, money… there’s a lot of opportunity to pick up some pretty nasty passengers that are more than happy to come home with you.

Doctors and scientists the world over agree: the best way to kill germs is to wash your hands and clean your home. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are hearing these simple directions time and time again. There is a reason why!

Aside from washing our hands, the best way to protect your family is to wipe down countertops, doorknobs, light switches, and common surfaces with either a mixture of warm water and bleach or a household surface cleaner, such as Clorox. For electronics and other sensitive surfaces, try using wet wipes with an alcohol content of at least 65%.

That being said, cleaning a surface is not the same thing as disinfecting it. Disinfecting an area kills germs, while cleaning does not. Because of this, germs may continue to grow and reproduce.

It is a wise decision to use protection, such as gloves, when using any type of chemical cleaner. Even those of us who are not prone to chemical and solvent sensitivities may experience redness and discomfort when using bleach or ammonia-based cleaners. Rubber or latex gloves are recommended. It is also recommended that you adequately ventilate the area you are cleaning to avoid coming into contact with potentially harmful vapors.

If your home requires a more extensive and in-depth cleaning or disinfecting, call the experts at SERVPRO of Hesperia / Apple Valley / Barstow / Twentynine Palms.
