Preparing for the Storm
2/1/2022 (Permalink)
Many parts of the country have already experienced severe thunderstorms this winter and we've noticed a pattern - many people are not adequately prepared.
People often delay gathering goods to assist them through a thunderstorm, and sometimes it just doesn't seem like a big deal - until you're the one sitting in the dark wishing you would have prepared beforehand.
Our professionals at SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms highly recommend preparing in advance for emergencies, including thunderstorms.
If you have a moment today, grab a small basket and fill it with essential items like:
- Flashlights
- Candles
- Matches
- Lanterns
- Portable phone chargers
When you know a thunderstorm is approaching your region, pay attention to your local weather service announcements; they'll keep you in the know about the severity of the storm.
Also, it's imperative to designate a room in your home as a safe space in the event of a thunderstorm. This space should be located away from windows or anything made of glass - should winds be over 40 miles per hour.
Finally, ensure that large trees in your yard or even your neighbor's yard are wind resistant, loose branches are cut, and trees are trimmed; for the safety of your family and home.
