Water - It's Everywhere

The majority of planet Earth is covered in water. Upwards of 78%. We know more about space than we do about our own oceans due to the technical limitations regarding pressure and supporting life in an oxygen-free environment. The human body is also mostly water. If you don’t drink water for three days, it’s lights out. Why am I bringing up these moderately interesting but well-known facts? Simple.
Water is necessary for life on earth, but it also causes some serious issues.
As I said, we are mostly made of water. Our homes, however, do not share this biology. If your house suddenly becomes 80% water, we will be expecting your call because that means your home is at least a couple of feet underwater. That is not what one would consider a “healthy balance”.
Floods in California aren’t common. Traditional floods, anyway. Flash floods, however, are very common and cause a lot of headaches. Even with adequate time to prepare, be it with sandbags or temporary trenches meant to defer floodwater away from your home, water seems to find a way into people’s homes.
Aside from the obvious damage caused by water, there are two other factors that need to be considered that make floods even more of a pain.
- Insulation: If insulation gets wet, it loses all effectiveness and is rendered virtually useless. Walls will need to be cut and batts will need to be removed and replaced.
- Mold: Mold can begin to form in as little as 48 hours given the proper conditions. Trust me: this is an experience you want to avoid.
So what did we learn today? Water is in everything, you don’t want water in your house, and the SERVPRO of Hesperia/Apple Valley and SERVPRO of Barstow/Twentynine Palms blogs can be sort of peculiar at times. These are all facts.
If you experience a water intrusion at your home or business, give us a call. We can help make it “Like it never even happened.”
